Keeping boredom at bay at The Wilson and Leisure At Cheltenham

Where: The Wilson Art Gallery and Musuem and Leisure at Cheltenham

When: Until September 2nd

With a couple of weeks of the school holidays still to run, The Cheltenham Trust  has ongoing programme of activities and workshops to keep the youngsters occupied and engaged for the remainder of the summer break.

A round-up things to do at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum

Holiday craft sessions

Come along to The Wilson on 21 and 28 August and enjoy a family-friendly craft session. Each session will have a different craft process or activity to learn, along with painting and drawing animals and artefacts from the museum collection.

Suitable for a variety of skill levels including very young artists, be prepared to get messy! Sessions will run at 10.30am - 12.30pm or 1.30 - 3.30pm and cost £3.50. Please call 01242 387488 to book a place.

Create your own nature notebook

What can you see all around you, in your local area, your school playground, your back garden?

The Nature Notebooks are a scrapbook of drawings and paintings by Edward Adrian Wilson, gathered together and mounted by his father. They span the period from his childhood right up until 1910 when he set off on his second, and as it proved to be the last, expedition to the Antarctic. They include illustrations of plants, birds, animals, fish and insects from the hills, and woods and streams around Cheltenham, the home town he loved.

Why not create your own nature notebook this summer? There's still time to create a nature notebook to hand in to The Wilson front desk by Friday 23 August.

Submissions will be judged by a panel and short-listed entries will be exhibited for public display at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum from 28 August - 1 September.

World of Wonders (WOW) gallery

Our World of Wonders gallery encourages children and young people to sing, dance, touch and play in our interactive gallery. With leaping rabbits, a hidden penguin and a bone-shaker in the sky, there's plenty to stimulate the imagination.

The WOW gallery includes a buggy park plus The Wilson provides onsite changing facilities, lifts to all floors and a café offering tasty treats and light lunches.

Entry to the WOW gallery is free, donations are kindly welcomed.

Hidden Cheltenham

Cheltenham's Hidden Trail takes participants across town including Montpellier Gardens and The Brewery Quarter and invites families to follow clues and uncover hidden stories. The trail is free to take part in, with the chance to win prizes and get a sticker to add to the No Child Left Behind #PhysicallyActive Summer Challenge wall chart (distributed through participating schools in July).

The trail is running through the summer holidays from 9am - 5pm Monday to Saturday, until Monday 2 September.

To take part, visit http://bit.ly/CheltSummerTrail to receive a digital map or pick up a printed map and instructions from The Wilson front desk.
