Halloween events at The Folk of Gloucester
By David Wood | 24th October 2024
This Autumn half term, the Folk of Gloucester on Westgate Street is hosting two sets of spooky events in the week running up to Halloween - a daytime event for children, and an evening event for adults.
Formerly Gloucester Folk Museum, the Folk of Gloucester on 99-101 Westgate Street is a historic Tudor house that now acts as a heritage community centre. This vital educational and social hub relies on income from events to keep the building running.
Halloween at The Folk - affordable children's Halloween activities
Wednesday 30 & Thursday 31 October, 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm
Families are invited to step into this 500-year old building for some fun-filled children's Halloween events this Autumn Half Term. Each two-hour daytime session includes spooky storytelling, creepy crafts and a fiendish quiz trail around the historic site. The Story Smiths Story Circle, led by experienced poet and storyteller Sarah Snell-Pym, will give children a lively and fun introduction to local folk tales, recounting how Hetty Peglar came to live in her Tump and all about her dancing skeletons. This interactive session also invites children to share their own spooky stories.
Then kids will have a chance to make their own pumpkin pals, masquerade mask or anything their imagination can think of with Salaric Crafts. Activities are suitable for all ages and skill levels, and the cafe will be serving child-friendly spooky snacks, cake and hot drinks throughout.
This subsidised event was specifically designed to combat the lack of affordable children's Halloween experiences in central Gloucester. Tickets are priced at £8 for one child, £12 for two children or £15 for three children, with adults going free. They can be found via the Folk of Gloucester web page.
Halloween's Terrifying Tales - mind-bending magic and spooky storytelling for adults
Saturday 26, Wednesday 30 & Thursday 31 October, 7:30pm
Kids shouldn't get all the fun at Halloween. Grown-ups in search of a scare are invited to join seasoned storyteller and magician Nick Brunger for an evening of terrifying tales, strange stories and weird wonders. As his alter-ego Dr Nicolas Grimoire, Nick will help attendees discover the power of haunted objects and summon thoughts of the dead at this atmospheric and haunting evening event.
Refreshments are available during the interval. Tickets can be found via the Folk of Gloucester web page.
