Gradual start to autumn at Batsford Arboretum

The mixed weather patterns over the past few months have led to a slightly more gradual change of colour for the trees at Batsford Arboretum this autumn.

A wet start to the spring, followed by warm sunshine in early summer and more damp weather in July and August, provided ideal growing conditions for the trees. The unusual heatwave in September then resulted in the leaves retaining their green colour for longer.

Whilst the autumn colours at Batsford would usually begin to reach their peak in mid-October, this weather pattern has caused a slight delay - with the autumn colours only just beginning to reach their peak now - almost two weeks later than normal.

Visitors to Batsford can expect to see a stunning mix of bright reds, golds and yellows thanks to the collection of Japanese maples, Sorbus, Euonymus and cherries dotted around the 60-acre tree garden near Moreton-in-Marsh.

It is expected that the colour will last until mid-November, weather permitting.
