Dom Joly's first 'SpeakeaZy' in Cheltenham has already sold out - but more dates have been announced for the following three months.

Created by Dom on the 25th anniversary year of Trigger Happy TV, the first 'Cabaret of Curiosities' is taking place at the Steam & Whistle pub in Cheltenham on Thursday, April 3.

The multi-award-winning comedian, travel writer and broadcaster is hosting a live night that's being recorded for broadcast

He first shot to fame with the global smash hit Trigger Happy TV that sold to over 80 countries and won the Silver Rose of Montreux. The show celebrates its 25th anniversary this month and Dom, with the help of Live Nation, is announcing a 25th anniversary tour this week.

But the Cheltenham resident has a big surprise for a little closer to home...Dom's Cabaret of Curiosities will have a late-night chat show vibe with guests, music and comedy.

Dom wants to provide a unique, off-beat experience and the venue - The Steam and Whistle Pub and live venue opposite Cheltenham Spa station - ticks all the boxes.

The idea is to have an evening that incorporates all of Dom's interests - music, comedy, a bit of culture and a smattering of current affairs.

He wants to not only shine a light of local talent in his curiosity show, he has persuaded bands he loves to do unplugged sets and promises a series of top mystery guests that, with the help of the audience, he will interview on stage. These could be musicians, comedians, writers, politicians...anybody who Dom feels might be interesting and are foolish enough to accept his invitation.

It aims to be a monthly affair, taking place on the first Thursday of every month.

Dom will be recording the evenings for a podcast of the same name but he promises that it will not be your usual podcast.

Future dates for Dom Joly's SpeakeaZy are Thursday, May 1, Thursday, June 5, and Thursday, July 3.

Artisan pizzas and streetfood kitchen and bar will be open at 5pm, show starts 7pm, more beer from 9pm. Note: seating is first come first served so arrive early!

Dom said: "I've had a weird connection to Cheltenham ever since I first came here for my Granny's 90th birthday at the Queen's Hotel in 1977. As a comedian on tour, I've been to pretty much every town in the UK and I can honestly say, there is no better place. Cheltenham seriously punches above its weight.

"Now as a resident, I really want to add to the town's already flourishing entertainment scene.

"What with this being the 25th anniversary of Trigger Happy TV, it's going to be a massively busy year for me, but I also really want to do something for Cheltenham; a town I live in and have had family connections with for generations. 

"It's such an amazing place - beautiful architecture, fabulous festivals, great people and I just want to add something a bit eclectic and interesting into the mix. I think this SpeakEazy club night will be a fun and quirky addition."
