Gloucester's Battle of the Balls

Gloucester City AFC will be welcoming Rugby For Heroes to New Meadow Park for a Legends charity football match on Sunday, January 30.

This match will serve as preparation for the Rugby For Heroes team of ex-professional rugby players as they will be playing later in the year against a team littered with ex-premiership talent as well as fundraising to support military veterans.

For Gloucester City AFC this is a great opportunity to honour important players to the history of the club and have them experience their newly reconstructed home ground.

Gloucester City manager Lee Mansell said: "It's a fantastic game for us to host at New Meadow Park as we welcome back some of the heroes from years gone by to represent us again against the Rugby For Heroes team.

"It's a chance for fans to come and enjoy supporting our old faces again. I'm even going to dust off the boots!

"It's also a chance for us to support a charity doing great things, not to mention watch some former England Internationals on the rugby pitch try a sport with a round ball!"

"It promises to be a fun day for all the Gloucester family to enjoy."

Mike Tindall MBE, patron of Rugby For Heroes, said: "We are excited to take on this new challenge in facing a Gloucester City Legends team in a competitive game of football to show off our 'silky skills'.

"We are glad that the two sports can come together with the local community to create an amazing event whilst raising funds for a great cause."

Rugby For Heroes will be captained by England World Cup winner Mike Tindall MBE with Gloucester City AFC being led out by record appearance holder Tom Webb.

Official line-ups will be released later this week with some exciting names featuring for both including Ryan Lamb (Gloucester RFC), Delon Armitage (Toulon

RFC, England International), Gary Kemp and Neil Mustoe.

Kick-off will be at 2pm with entertainment, food, drink and auctions happening throughout the event.
