Gloucester commemorates Armed Forces Day

A Spitfire flypast, military parade, music and stalls are promised as part of Gloucester's commemoration of Armed Forces Day this June.

Armed Forces Day, on Saturday 25th June, includes a military parade that leaves Gloucester Cathedral grounds at 12.30pm. This will involve a variety of former and current Regiments, including the Gloucestershire Regiment and the cadets. The parade will be led by the Tidworth Military Band who will march through the town and finish at Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

Up to 30 stalls will be lined around Back Badge Square and Victoria Basin including Gloucester Rugby, Royal British Legion plus food and a bar available outside the museum.

Speeches by the Mayor of Gloucester and Commander of the Imjin Barracks will take place at 1.45pm.

Weather permitting, there is due to be a flypast by a historic WWII Spitfire and from 2.30pm there will be a variety of musical performances outside of Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

Director of The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum Matthew Holden said: "Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the citizens of Gloucestershire to thank our armed forces for their dedication to duty, their sacrifice, and their service to our country. We hope people come along to watch the parades and enjoy the events in Gloucester Docks."
