Gloucester Cathedral is holding a medieval-themed family fun day on Sunday, June 24, to celebrate the completion of Project Pilgrim Phase 1.
Building work has now finished on the ground-breaking £6m project which involved conserving and improving key parts of the Cathedral for visitors and was supported by a £4.6m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
Local residents throughout Gloucester are invited to come and see the new Cathedral Green and the fully restored Lady Chapel, as well as exploring the new Tribune Gallery exhibition installation
A range of activities will be available to suit all ages and tastes, including archery, circus performers, stonemason demonstrations, heritage crafts, scaffolding tours, choral music and lots more.
The event will take place between the Cathedral's Sunday services which all are welcome to join (Morning Eucharist from 10.15am and Evensong from 3pm, led by the Dean in the morning and Bishop Rachel at Evensong)
As well as The Monk's Kitchen's own refreshments, a hog-roast will be available in the Cathedral grounds.
The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, Dean of Gloucester, said: "The purpose of Project Pilgrim remains to help Gloucester Cathedral to become as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone.
"The completion of the first phase of the project is a significant milestone towards this goal and we are delighted with the outcome.
"What better way to celebrate and to thank people for their support than to invite them to their Cathedral to see the results for themselves and to enjoy a day of fun activities for the whole family."
