Get your trainers on and run for the trees!

Where: Westonbirt Arboretum, near Tetbury

When: Thursday, May 9, 7pm

Booking opens today (Wednesday) for the popular Westonbirt 10K, which returns to the National Arboretum on Thursday, May 9 at 7pm, as part of the Forestry Commission Active Forests programme.

One of the most beautiful running routes in the UK, the National Arboretum is the perfect location for sporting events, and runners taking part in this race will be able to take in the world renowned tree collection at one of its most beautiful times of year, with spring blooms and flowering trees providing the backdrop to this popular 10K.

Perfect for those looking for a challenge in the new year, or veteran runners looking to achieve a new personal best, the course takes participants through the picturesque avenues of the Old Arboretum and into the peaceful tranquillity of the ancient Silk Wood, on largely flat terrain and hard paths.

All those taking part in the race will be able to make a big difference to their fitness and wellbeing, but also to the nation's heritage and environment.

Every penny from the 10K goes back into supporting the nation's woods and forests, and protecting these beautiful places for future generations.

All runners will also have the opportunity to fundraise for the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum. Upon booking, everyone will have the opportunity to sign up as a charity runner, and raise funds for the Friends, by creating a fundraising page.

Raise £50 and receive early bird entry to the race in 2020, raise £90 and receive a T-Shirt and early bird entry to the race in 2020.

All funds raised for the Friends go back into the arboretum, allowing us to continue our important work in conservation, community and preserving this unique place.

Anyone wishing to participate is strongly encouraged to book early, as last year the race was fully booked within 24 hours of going on sale.

Paul Cody, the head of Visitor Attraction at Westonbirt Arboretum commented: 'We are thrilled that the run will be returning to us for its fifth consecutive year! This year we have looked to give runners an all-new route, taking them past some of the spring highlights of the arboretum.

"You don't have to be an experienced runner to take part - anyone looking for a new challenge or those who are completely new to running can come and have a go!"

The run will cost £15.50 to UK athletics affiliated members, and £17.50 to non-affiliated members.
