Get down to the Onion Fayre this Saturday

Where: Newent town centre

When: Saturday, September 8, 10am-5pm

Gloucestershire's largest free to enter one-day festival - the last party of the summer - takes place on Saturday (September 8).

This year's event will be opened by two 'mystery' celebrities, both of whom reached number 1 in the UK singles chart.

Since its resurrection in 1996, Newent Onion Fayre has grown to now fill the whole town centre and park with an amazing array of stalls and entertainment, providing a fantastic and exciting day out for all the family.

Each year the Newent Onion Fayre has become increasingly popular and in 2018 it's estimated that 15-20,000 people will visit the event.

The three music stages provide great music throughout the day and many of the acts performing are from the incredibly rich pool of local talent.

Last year the revamped food village was such a success that the music and seating area has been enlarged with more stalls to tempt the taste buds.

The Park area will be particularly exciting to visit this year. The dog arena will be hosting much more than the dog show, with all sorts of canine demonstrations planned.

The Funion Zone is back for its second year, with fun activities for the younger visitor.

With over 150 stalls and rides filling the streets, there is sure to be something for everyone.

The Onion Show in the Memorial Hall is a must see! Huge onions, leeks and alliums of all varieties will be on show, not forgetting the cookery - all onion-based recipes - the competition is hot!

The not-to-be-missed event is the world-famous Onion Eating Competition held on the main stage at 1pm. Why not have a go? Come to the main stage before 12 noon.
