An expert in ancient trees will be running a special workshop at Stroud's Museum in the Park on Sunday (October 7).

Having worked in the tree world for over 40 years, Paul Rutter has advised landowners including the National Trust and the Forestry Commission about the best ways to manage ancient trees.

This workshop will give a fascinating insight into the world of ancient trees, and will even include a 'deadwood road show'!

In the morning, we will explore the importance of trees for biodiversity and for our own wellbeing.

Participants will learn how to identify ancient and veteran trees, to understand the role of decaying wood and how a tree ages, and how this process creates special habitats for plants and wildlife.

The second part of the day will be a walk around the park to identify the trees that are or can become ancient if managed sympathetically.

The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about trees, no previous knowledge or experience required.

Tea and coffee provided but please bring a packed lunch, a notebook, pens or pencils, walking boots and warm/rainproof coat.
