Fall into autumn with the National Trust in Gloucestershire

Across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, National Trust places are full of warmth as the trees slowly turn to red, orange and gold.
Enjoy crisp walks with family and friends and steaming cups of hot chocolate. There's lots on offer this season, from spooky trails to crafty weekends and guided nature walks to Heritage Open Days.
What's more, every time you experience a National Trust day out, you help care for these special places for future generations.

Chedworth Roman Villa
Enter the Roman Fitness Arena
Friday 1 - Sunday 3 September. 10am - 4.30pm
The Villa's upper courtyard will be transformed into a sporting arena this September with human chariot racing, bodybuilding, gladiator duels, hoop rolling and other Roman sporting activities. An exciting game called 'Movement through Mosaics' will also be launched. You will have the chance to hop, jump, dance and freestyle your way through a maze of mosaics, keeping your mind active and body in shape. After your workout, spend some time relaxing on the lawns, picnicking, playing games and enjoying the beauty of the Cotswold landscape.

Mosaic Making Workshop
Wednesday 20 September. 10am - 4pm
This will be a really creative class with lots of freedom to choose what you would like to make, and plenty of inspiration and help from your tutor. Whether it's a unique coaster, trivet, house plaque or a simple shape of your own design you will learn how to select and cut and place tiles and recycled bone china to fit, plus there will be a fabulous selection of gems and glass tiles to incorporate into your piece if you fancy some added sparkle! You will be taught how to grout the finished mosaic and may complete several during the day. Hangers can be added to make the finished mosaics into decorative pieces for your home or gifts for friends or family.
Tea, Coffee and a light lunch from the café is included - a pre order will be taken.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wanting to expand their mosaic making skills. All materials are included in the cost. If you have broken china at home, feel free to bring it along to add to your piece. Please bring an old apron and wear covered shoes for the workshop.

Roman Crafts Day
Saturday 28 October. 11am - 4pm
Master mosaicists will show you how Chedworth's floors were created, metal workers will recreate Roman artefacts and spinners and weavers will demonstrate how to work with ancient wools and fabrics. There will also be an opportunity to meet the makers of popular items from the Chedworth shop including jewellery, jams and Roman games.

Hidcote
International Garden Photographer of the Year
Friday 8 September to Sunday 5 November
Discover The International Garden Photographer of the Year touring exhibition, featuring a selection of winning photographs from previous competitions and the first, second and third prize-winners of the joint Hidcote and IGPOTY special competition 'Highlights of Hidcote'.

Tai Chi at Hidcote

Join Debbie from Swan School of Tai Chi & Chi Gung, as they take you through the ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practised as a graceful form of exercise all over the world.

Historical tour of Hidcote's buildings

Join Building Historian Roger Johnson for a series of 30-minute tours over the summer to explore the history of Hidcote's buildings. Find out why the buildings evolved and how this can tell us so much about Hidcote's past and the lives of the people who lived and worked there.

Heritage Open Day

Enjoy free entry to the garden at Hidcote and find out about the garden's significance and development on one of our garden tours. There will be a guided garden tour at 9am and 4pm, lasting one hour. Please book online or call 0344 249 1895 as tickets are limited. If visiting before 1pm, it is essential to reserve your parking in advance, book online or call 0344 249 1895 - tickets are released up to two weeks in advance.

Garden tour
Every Tuesday in September. 3.30 - 4.30pm
Join one of Hidcote's Garden Guide volunteers for a one-hour tour of the garden's formal outdoor rooms, every Saturday and Sunday at 3pm. Please note that the tour is limited to 16 people. We, therefore recommend that if you would like to join that day's tour to book your ticket at Visitor Welcome on arrival.

Silent Space
Daily to 1 October. 10am - 4pm
At Hidcote, the Silent Space is the Italian Shelter, located by the Bathing Pool area of the garden. Set back among the archway of the yew hedge walls and sounds of the Bathing Pool fountain, the Italian Shelter is a secret garden waiting to be discovered. With a thatched shelter, 1920s-inspired artwork and wooden benches, it provides a peaceful and tranquil haven to stop and quietly connect to nature.

Lodge Park
Lodge Park open days
Friday 1 - Sunday 3 September. 10am - 4pm
Discover the story of Lodge Park, from being built by John Dutton in the 1630s to restoration of the grandstand by the National Trust in the 1990s. Explore the Bridgeman landscape on a guided walk, relax on the lawn and play some lawn games, or see what nature you can spot in the woodland walk.

Newark Park
Sculpture in the garden at Newark Park
Daily to 29 October. 10am - 5pm.
As you wander the garden, spot works of art made by various artists against the tranquil backdrop of the Ozleworth valley. Each piece is for sale—please contact the artist directly for further information and to make a purchase. Information on each artist can be found in the exhibition leaflet that can be picked up on site. The sculptors this year will include; Kelly Eldridge, Martin Adamson, Renée Kilburn, Steve Mansfield, Stuart Stockwell and Yvette Green.

Wild Art
Daily to 5 November. 10am - 5pm
Can you make your own art piece from things you find in nature? See if you can spot the 'wild' art dotted around the garden and get inspired to make your own! Don't forget to pick up a handout from visitor reception with ideas on things you can make and display at home.

Halloween storytelling
Daily between 21 October. and 5 November. Ask for times on arrival and check website.
Join one of our volunteers in the Drawing Room for a storytelling session with a spooky Halloween theme. While this is aimed at younger children, all ages are welcome to come along and enjoy!

Indoor spotter trail
Daily. 10am - 5pm
Crocheted toadstools have started popping up on the ground floor of the house! Can you spot them all as you explore each room?

Immerse yourself in the spectacular changing colours of nature as the trees put on a show for autumn. Follow one of the estate walks or take in the view from the house to see how the Ozleworth valley changes over the seasons.

Snowshill Manor
Traditional Craft Demonstrations
16, 23, 24, 30 September. 11:30am-3:30pm
Explore our costume collection then see traditional crafters bring the skills to life that go into making clothes such as spinning, lace making and embroidery.

Apple Day
Saturday 23 September. 11am - 4pm
Everyone is welcome to join in and hand press apple juice using Snowhill's variety of apples. Use traditional equipment and harvested apples to see which one tastes the best. Learn about the different variety of apples at Snowshill through our yearly apple display.

Autumn Garden Trail

Enjoy the best that Autumn has to offer with a sensory trail around the garden. Spot autumn colours and the signs of autumn, play nature-based games and take a moment to relax in our silent space.

Halloween Spot-it Trail
28 October - 5 November 11:30am-4:30pm There are 10 of our eerie theatre mask faces hidden around the Manor - will you be able to spot them all as you explore? Make sure to stop off at Seraphim to see the real collection and pick which one you think is the scariest. Price: Free (normal admission applies). Booking not required.
