Explore historic gems in Gloucestershire for free

Scores of interesting properties across Gloucestershire which are normally closed to the public or charge for admission will be offering FREE access this weekend.

Heritage Open Days celebrate England's fantastic historic architecture and culture. Every year on three days in September, there's a chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy free access to a wide range of events and activities which bring local history and culture to life.

In Gloucester alone, there are over 120 events organised by Gloucester Civic Trust. These range from the opportunity to see inside the Eastgate Chamber to viewing the inside one of the best examples of a Tudor merchant's house in the country.

The city is among the top three venues in the country with its huge range of activities during Heritage Open Days with guided tours, music and cultural activities in the city centre, at Gloucester Docks and in the city's suburbs.

National Heritage Open Days began in 1992 and started in Gloucester in 1994, making this the city's 29th year.

The national theme for this year's HODs is Creativity Unwrapped.

A spokesperson said: "HODs are often described as the showcase of the Civic Trust and we are delighted to have a number of new events in our programme this year."

To find out all about the work of the Civic Trust and to see what's on this weekend, visit the Gloucester Civic Trust website.

All events are free to access and most do not require booking but some must be booked. You can book online at https://buytickets.at/gloucestercivictrustlimited or in person at The Folk of Gloucester.
