Covid causes circus closure

Gloucestershire's Gifford Circus has been forced to close down for 10 days, after team members tested positive for Covid.

In a statement on its website, the Stroud-based circus said: "We are heartbroken that today members of our Giffords Circus team have received positive PCR tests. As a result, we are shutting down with immediate effect for 10 days, in line with government advice."

The circus was due to head for Minchinhampton and Marlborough in the next few days.

The statement continued: "We will contact everyone who has tickets to both Minchinhampton and Marlborough.

"We will be doing everything we possibly can to bring the Hooley back as quickly and safely as possible."

The Hooley is Giffords' show for 2021 and features fairies, trolls, pixies, leprechauns and wild horses and its biggest and most lavish set to date.
