Comedy version of classic Sherlock Holmes story

Where: The Barn Theatre, Cirencester

When: Wednesday, October 24, to Saturday, November 24

A new comedy version of Sherlock Holmes: Hound of the Baskervilles opens at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester tonight for a month-long run.

When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Written by John Nicholson and Steven Canny for the hit comedy team Peepolykus, this version premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, UK in 2007, where it broke box-office records, before touring the UK and transferring to the West End.

Three talented performers will be playing the 14 roles, including recent Bristol Old Vic graduate Herb Cuanalo as Holmes, Stapleton, Cecille Stapleton, Mr Barrymore, Mrs Barrymore and Yokel 3; Hywel Dowsell as Watson and Yokel 1; and Dominic Brewer as Sir Charles Baskerville, Sir Henry Baskerville, Mortimer, Cabbie, Yokel 2 and Wise Yokel.

On October 31 there will be a tweed evening, with Sherlock-themed cocktails, an opportunity to meet the cast, and a prize for the best tweed!
