Cinema widens audience with launch of new scheme

Where: Gloucester Guildhall

When: From Saturday, August 12, 2017

A new initiative to screen blockbuster films with subtitles is being launched in Gloucester to enable more people to enjoy the latest movies.

Gloucester Guildhall will be showing new releases with subtitles every weekend starting on Saturday, August 12 with The Beguiled (15), a southern gothic thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell.

Lead Film Programmer, Rhys Howell, said: "Gloucester Guildhall is one of the most vibrant venues in the county and we want to make it as accessible as possible for everyone.

"So starting from August 12, we'll be showing a new release every Saturday at 10.30am with subtitles in our cinema."

Gloucester Guildhall's cinema is in the old wood-panelled council chamber and shows a mix of British, foreign and Hollywood films throughout the year.

Other upcoming films in the Subtitled Saturdays series include Dunkirk (12A) on August 19, The Big Sick (15) on August 26 and Maudie (12A) on September 2. Tickets cost £3.50.

Rhys adds: "We're excited to launch Subtitled Saturdays in August and make access to great films in a great cinema easier. This is a scheme which we hope will run and run."
