Choristers to perform with internationally acclaimed clarinettist

Where: Gloucester Cathedral

When: Saturday, December 7, 11am

Internationally acclaimed clarinettist Emma Johnson will perform her Songs of Celebration with the boy and girl choristers of Gloucester Cathedral, conducted by Adrian Partington, in a special Christmas concert on Saturday (December 7) at 11am.

This year, Emma has composed an inventive Christmas suite, Songs of Celebration, comprising four original carols.

They combine clarinet and high voices in a unique way to create an atmosphere of celebration. Ranging from intensely soulful to light and jazzy, the musical style is fresh and engaging.

Two timeless medieval texts sit alongside original words by Emma Johnson, saluting the Christmas story.

Described by The Times as "Britain's favourite clarinettist", Emma is one of the few clarinet players to have made a career as a soloist. Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year at the age of 17 she has gone on to become one of the UK's biggest selling classical artists.

The Cathedral's choristers will not only be singing, they will also be showcasing their musical talents by performing instrumental pieces for your enjoyment.

Emma has generously agreed to perform free of charge, with all monies raised through the ticket sales and on the day going towards funding future chorister activities.

Gloucester Cathedral's director of music Adrian Partington and the choristers have made a short video about their upcoming concert which you can view at the Cathedral website.

Concert programme:

  • Il est né, arr. Rutter
  • Introduction by Adrian Partington
  • Chorister instrumentalists (3 choristers)

Tickets cost £20 and are available from the welcome desk in Gloucester Cathedral, on the door on the day, on 01452 768928 or online at the 3 Choirs website.
