Cheltenham Poetry Festival to showcase writing by University staff and students

Teaching staff, students and graduates from University of Gloucestershire will present their writing at the Cheltenham Poetry Festival featuring a 10-day programme of live literature events.

The Cheltenham Poetry Festival, which has been sponsored by the University since its inception more than a decade ago, includes readings, performances and workshops at venues around Cheltenham from 10-24 September.

Poets Dr Rowan Middleton, senior lecturer in creative English literature within the School of Education and Humanities at the University, and Colin Bancroft will explore 'The Enduring Influence of the Dymock Poets' at the University's Francis Close Chapel on its Francis Close Hall Campus on 21 September (6.30pm).

The festival's programme of events on 22 September includes 'A Showcase of Writing from Students and Tutors at the University of Gloucestershire' featuring new writing and published works at the Francis Close Hall Chapel (8.30pm).

Readers from the University at the event will include Dr Middleton, Angela France (senior lecturer in creative writing), and Senja Andrejevic (senior lecturer in creative writing).

Angela France, a graduate of the University and whose publications include Occupation, Hide and The Hill, will also be reading at 'Gloucestershire: an inspiring county' at Francis Close Hall Chapel on 23 September (6.45pm).

The festival is returning to its live format in Cheltenham after two years of online events because of the Covid-10 pandemic.

Anna Saunders, founding director of the festival, said: "We will be putting Gloucestershire on the map with events that feature some of the incredibly gifted writers and artists who reside within the county."
