Cheltenham man hosts fund-raiser in memory of his mum

Fabulous food, uplifting music and fantastic auction prizes awaits people at The Beehive bar, Montpellier, Cheltenham, on Sunday (July 10).

Local man Tony Winstone is raising money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, in memory of his mum.

This is the second time Tony, who lives in the centre of Cheltenham, has hosted the pub fundraiser, the first being in 2019, when he raised an incredible £3,000.

As an accomplished amateur chef, he hopes to tempt visitors back this year with his infamous array of BBQ delights, in a bid to raise more vital funds for the hospice which cared for his mum in her final days.

As well as top quality food, and drinks on tap, people will be entertained by local musical talent including Tony Hodder and his jukebox karaoke - people will be invited to pick a song and either belt out the tune themselves or ask Tony to sing it for them - as well as guitarist, Steve Franks, who will play well-known pop music from the last few decades.

The afternoon will wrap up with a raffle and silent auction with prizes including a signed, match-worn Gloucester Rugby top, a cocktail experience at The Urban Fox and an afternoon tea at Ellenborough Park.

Tony said: "My mum was cared for by the most compassionate and caring staff from Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. It was at that time that I really got to understand how much goes into running a hospice. This is my tiny way of giving back and saying thank you to the staff there.

"I would also like to thank everyone who has helped make my fundraiser happen; the owner of The Beehive who has trusted me implicitly to run this event; sponsors County to County Property Group who have helped me cover the cost of the day so every penny can go to supporting local people; Philip Dennis Foodservice for supplying the meat at cost price; La Boulangerie Artisan for the amazing French bread; everyone who has kindly donated raffle and auction prizes and my employers, Tesco, for their donations and help in promoting the day."

The event takes place on Sunday from 2pm-8pm at The Beehive, 1-3 Montpellier Villas, Cheltenham GL50 2XE and is free to enter. Children are welcome.
