Ceremonies planned to mark Armed Forces Day

Where: Cotswold District Council offices in Cirencester and Moreton-in-Marsh

When: Monday, June 24, 10am (Cirencester), 12 noon (Moreton)

Cotswold District Council will be celebrating this year's Armed Forces Day in the north and south of the district on Monday, June 24.

There will be a special flag raising ceremony at the council's Trinity Road, Cirencester, headquarters at 10am which will be followed by a similar event at the Moreton Area Centre at 12 noon.

At both venues the public will be given the opportunity to show their support for the work of the Army, Navy and RAF.

At Cirencester, council leader Cllr Joe Harris will make a short speech and then raise the flag. CDC deputy chair Cllr Dilys Neill will officiate at Moreton.

Each ceremony is usually attended by local representatives of the armed forces, local schools, and senior officials from the council.

Since its introduction in 2009, Armed Forces Day has become a national institution. This is the sixth year running that the council has staged a ceremony at Moreton as well as Cirencester.

Both ceremonies enable people to pay their respects to past and present service personnel who have helped to make this country safe and prosperous.

Armed Forces Day was first launched in June 2009 to show support for the work of serving troops and cadets, as well as service families and veterans.
