Centenary celebration marks return of the region's top food and farming event

2022 marks the 100th year that the three counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire have come together to bring a regional agricultural event to the area.

The Three Counties Showground is running the anniversary show this summer and partners from across the region joined together at Weston's Cider in Much Marcle, to celebrate the major milestone.

The Royal Three Counties Show has a host county each year and this rotates between the three counties. For the centenary event Herefordshire is the lucky county, and Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley OBE, Sarah de Rohan, High Sheriff of Herefordshire and Councillor Sebastian Bowen, Chairman of Herefordshire County Council joined the celebrations.

Guests watched in awe as new show partners STIHL ran a STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Underhand Chop axe demonstration with Team GB athlete Glen Penlington, who was joined by Show Ambassador and BBC Countryfile Presenter, Adam Henson.

The TIMBERSPORTS® British Championships will be a thrilling new addition to the Royal Three Counties Show, taking place on 17-19 June.

Westons Cider hosted the special launch celebration, following a long association with the show, alongside sponsors Berrington Water, HCR, Western Power and Ludlow Gin.

Organisers of the event from the Three Counties Agricultural Society, including the president Michael Blandford, vice president Graham Watkins, chairman Clive Roads and Herefordshire county director Adrian Hope, all came out to join the show's team led by Jane Edwards, to raise a glass or 'axe' to the triumphant return of one of the region's most prized events.

Jane Edwards said: "The Royal Three Counties Show is back after a two-year break, just in time to mark the special 100th anniversary celebration and we have an action-packed weekend planned for visitors to the show.

"We've introduced a new Food & Drink Festival and theatre hosted by writer and cook Mark Diacono, we have the Bolddog Lings Motorcycle display team performing jaw-dropping stunts in our main arena, plus there will be more than 6,000 animals to see and an exciting new family trail.

"The highlight of the Father's Day weekend will be a live appearance from Clarkson's Farm favourite and rural champion Kaleb Cooper, and not forgetting the sawing, chopping and slicing of wood at record-breaking speed with the new STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Championships taking place on all three days."

Day tickets are available to purchase now, with children under 16 free of charge.
