Bringing the spirit of Louisiana to Gloucester

Where: Gloucester Guildhall

When: Friday, January 26, to Sunday, January 28

Europe's longest running Cajun and Zydeco festival returns to Gloucester for its 25th anniversary later this month.

Bringing artists and fans from around the world, this festival is widely known in the Cajun and Zydeco and world music circles. This year is no exception and will see a number of high-profile performers bless the stages of Gloucester Guildhall.

The festival will be kicked off with River Zydeco Band. The 10-piece party band hailing from The Netherlands are sure to have you on your feet.

Saturday continues with Cajun Roosters. A band made up of five members from five different European countries, coming together to perform the music of South Louisiana with energy, intensity and passion, infusing life into old standards and new compositions. They were picked up by Mark Lamarr and invited to be in session on his BBC show for Radio 2 'God's Jukebox'.

To round up our Saturday line up we will see one of the most influential accordionists and vocalists in modern zydeco music; Jeffery Broussard. Born and raised in Lafayette, LA, Broussard taught himself to play his father's accordion.

For many years Broussard has been known for playing his music with passion and soul. Many Cajun and Zydeco bands have completed covers of his songs, showing just how much of a legend he really is.

Whether he is playing a festival stage in front of thousands of dancers, a small theatre of seated patrons, giving an interview, teaching a lesson or playing at a trail ride, his warmth, love of the music and talent shine.

As well as the music there will be authentic Cajun and Creole food to try, Cajun and Zydeco dance workshops and the famous Swamp Rock DJ's to keep you dancing in between bands.

The Gloucester Cajun and Zydeco Festival is suitable for ages 14+ with weekend tickets priced at £60, Friday tickets £25, Saturday tickets £30 and Sunday tickets £30.
