Auditions for boy and girl choristers at Gloucester Cathedral

Where: Gloucester Cathedral

When: Wednesday, February 26, and Friday, February 28

Singing auditions for aspiring choristers are set to take place at Gloucester Cathedral later this month. If you know a girl or boy that loves to sing, now is the time to get in touch.

Girl chorister voice trials are set for Wednesday, February 26, with boys chorister trials on Friday, February 28. Children in school years 3 to 5 five are welcome to apply.

Successful applicants will receive a world-class musical education and will have the opportunity to sing alongside professionals in the magnificent Cathedral. As well as regular weekly services during term-time, the choirs sing at high-profile events throughout the Christian year, including Christmas and Easter.

Other performance opportunities include singing in the diocese, making recordings and broadcasts, as well as touring abroad. Previous successful trips have included Canada, USA, South Africa and Sweden.

For hundreds of years boy choristers have been educated exclusively at King's, with each boy receiving a choral scholarship towards their school fees. Girl choristers were established in 2016, and from 2021, will be offered a choral scholarship by the school and the Cathedral. Additional bursary support may also be available.

From 2021, Chorister duties will be shared equally between boys and girls, ensuring both play a full role in the musical life of the Cathedral. This development is a significant step in the Cathedral's rich choral history and will ensure equal opportunity for both girls and boys. Gloucester Cathedral Choir is rightly regarded as one of the best in the country and these new arrangements will strengthen and enhance its reputation.

To register for a voice trial, or for further information, please contact the Admissions Office at The King's School on 01452 337377.

The Cathedral and the King's School will hold a "Chorister Experience" Open Day on Saturday 26 September 2020 to which all are welcome. This Open Day will give interested children and their parents the opportunity to experience life as a Chorister. To register your interest, please contact the Cathedral Music Manager on 01452 508212.
