100 Young Voices – the best young singers are needed

Where: Cheltenham Town Hall

When: Wednesday & Thursday, October 24-25

Are you one of the top 100 best young singers in Gloucestershire? The Gloucestershire Youth Choir needs you to help remember and commemorate the end of the First World War.

The Gloucestershire Youth Choir (GYC) is recruiting new members to join the very best young singers from around Gloucestershire.

GYC works with the very best young singers from secondary schools across the county and provides them with the opportunity to work with professional tutors and to perform at iconic venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

On October 24 and 25 the choir will undertake a new commission (written especially for GYC and the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra) with a two-day course at the Cheltenham Town Hall and leading to a performance on the evening of Thursday, October 25.

There will be performances from well over 150 musicians and choir commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War and it is sure to be a moving and memorable evening.

If you think you are a passionate singer, of secondary school age and with a good understanding of music notation, then GYC could well be for you.

There is no better way of enjoying singing, working with professional tutors and representing your county than by being a member of the Gloucestershire Youth Choir.

Steven Legge, extended learning and provisions manager for Gloucestershire Music, said: "Our next course at the Cheltenham Town Hall will provide young singers with the opportunity to work alongside our team of excellent tutors as well as perform a very moving new work from the pen of local composer Jon Trim.

"We already have over 50 young singers secured for the course and concert and are now looking to reach that magic 100 so we can give as many young people the chance to perform and to represent Gloucestershire through being a member of our county youth choir."
