Punchline Talks! The B!G Interview with Glen Griffin
13th June 2024
Glen Griffin is CEO of Cheltenham-based IT solutions company Infrastar, sponsors of the B!G Interview.
Staffordshire-born Glen launched Infrastar seven years ago and it currently employs around 70 people, working in the IT sector mainly in infrastructure with major global companies such as Cisco and Dell.
"I love it," he says. "It's a great company to be part of and to interact with companies around the world. We do some unusual things. We tackle problems companies need solving. A lot of us are passionate about what we do.
"The people are everything to the business. We've got a great cross-range of people."
Glen has come a long way after leaving school with no O-Levels and leaving home at 16 to join the Royal Air Force where he spent 14 years. He was eventually to do O-Levels in Maths and English at the age of 28.
Glen started at the bottom in the RAF but moved into working in radar and comms, spending time in the Falklands working in IT.
Speaking about his time in the RAF, Glen said: "It was the best apprenticeship anybody could have. There was a lot of camaraderie. I had some great times. There were ups and downs but I enjoyed my time there."

Glen left the RAF to join a company called Admiral computing in 2001, working for them and their associated companies for 14 years.
He then decided to go out on his own. "Infrastar was born out of a need for people with infrastructure skills working around large types of computer systems."
He added: "One of my skills is knowing people. I love technology and looking into the future. Business is hard and you have got to stand out as a small company. I think we do it quite well."
Infrastar also does a lot of charity work, supporting projects such as Cheltenham's No Child Left Behind.
"We try to put some money back into the community and make people's lives easier and happier," Glen added.
Glen's hobbies revolve around anything to do with cars, motorbikes and motor racing. He also enjoys mountain biking in the Forest of Dean.
Glen says his only regret is not running his own company earlier.
