Charlie Perkins has moved from running illegal raves in the 1990s to running his own property development company in Gloucestershire.

Cheltenham born and bred, Charlie didn't go to university but got his first job at Marks & Spencer and then worked at Eagle Star as an office clerk.

He then went into the music industry which for a time involved his family running illegal raves attended by thousands of people and producing records.

"It was like any business - it was cyclical," he says.

After moving into property development, Charlie moved to Gloucester 10 years ago where, as MD of William Paige Ltd, he has a portfolio of commercial and residential properties and also owns the Secret Garden Children's Nurseries in Tredworth and Tuffley.

Among the prime properties in Gloucester he has developed is the Judges Lodgings boutique holiday lets near Gloucester Docks, a building that is steeped in history and was previously the residence of the MP for Gloucester. "In my opinion it's the best building in Gloucester historically," he says.

Charlie says the key to being a successful property developer is all about the timing.

"There are times to buy and there are times to not and I will only buy when it's cheap so I will sit and do nothing till the next time something comes along cheap."

Charlie said that when he moved to Gloucester in 2014 there was nobody investing in the city, but he has witnessed substantial investment since then. "I think Gloucester is on the up," he added.
