By Mark Owen | 2nd August 2024
Each Friday, Punchline-Gloucester.com editor Mark Owen is joined by leading Gloucestershire business figures from a range of backgrounds to review Fridays national & regional newspapers, discuss what is happening in their own business sector and in their own individual businesses.
Finally, they round off by picking the stories that have caught their eye in this week's Punchline-Gloucester.com.
The Business Breakfast Briefer show is sponsored by Hazlewoods Accountants and Business Advisors.
This week's panel of experts were:
Clare Marchant (DBE) - vice chancellor for the University of Gloucestershire.
The University is split across three sites, employs 1,000 staff, with 9,000 students and a turnover of £90million. Universities are having a tough time at the moment so we find out how they plan to ride out the storm and also how the new city centre campus is progressing - the trials and tribulations, its not been an easy build - but will be a game changer for the city when it is finished.
Luke Freeman - CEO - MF Freeman - Group of family-owned companies specialising in residential property development, retirement schemes and commercial property - the group has over 100 staff and a approx. turnover of £37million. We found out about their latest developments and what's his view on the new governments housing targets to build 1.5million homes in 5 years.
Laura Holloway - Co-Owner of The Stroud Wine Company - opened in 2017 and provide customers with the best, most interesting and diverse selection of wines that they can find. Their range is regularly updated, and they import many of their wines direct from small vineyards. We find out all about the business, the marketplace and what she'd recommend to drink this weekend.
Kathryn Johnson - owner and MD of KASA Solutions Ltd.
(KASA pronouced Kah-Sah means 'home' or 'house' in a few languages). She started the company in 2022 and specialises in providing keyworker accommodation and social housing for NHS workers. The business has really taken off, turnover was just over ¼ million in 18 months - so we find out more about the business, how its progresses and the marketplace - especially the growth of HMO's.
Jam packed as always - also covered - Goodbye Andy Murrey, skills and apprenticeships, boot camps, pay rises for 16 years olds, life time homes, interest rate cuts, house prices going up, this is another great show that covers so much more.
