E155 Punchline Talks! with Roman Cooper, Simon King, Marc Begg and Glen Collingbourne
By Mark Owen | 3rd May 2024
Each Friday, Punchline-Gloucester.com editor Mark Owen is joined by leading Gloucestershire business figures from a range of backgrounds to review Friday's national and regional newspapers and discuss what is happening in their own business sector and their own individual businesses.
Finally, they round off by picking the stories that have caught their eye in this week's Punchline-Gloucester.com.
The Business Breakfast Briefer show is sponsored by Hazlewoods Accountants and Business Advisors.
This week's panel of experts were:
Roman Cooper - MD of Allcooper Property and ex-owner of Allcoopers. Roman Cooper and his brother, Gerard Cooper, sold their family business in 2019 and now he runs the property company. How has the transition been, what is he up to now and what's next?
Simon King - head of external business relationships for Hartpury University and College. Simon helped raise the £2.25m of funds to support agri-tech ambitions and the new Tech Box Park. We find out what that actually is and also about his role as the lead for the Bathhurst Cycling Festival (Sat May 11).
Marc Begg - MD of Cirencester Fabrication Services. Marc bought the business during the height of the pandemic and increased sales in the first year by 20%. We find out how the company is doing now, with the ever-increasing rise in material, energy and staffing costs. What's next?
Glen Collingbourne - director at Hazlewoods, specialising in tax. The company has more than 500 staff split across two offices in Cheltenham and Staverton, with an approximate turnover of £35m. The company has just been rebranded - so we hear how well 'briefed' our tax guru Glen is on marketing. Also, the ramifications of the changes to the tax and nom-dom rules with this government and a possible future Labour one.
Today was a jam-packed show as always. Also covered in today's show - the local election results. We ask the panel - should the local elections be used to punish the government, never mind how good your local council and councillors are? It is also National Password Day (yes, who knew?), we find out about a new type of white bread, wrecking ball to housing plans, the Irish and English border problem and much, much more...
