Winchcombe development gets the go-ahead

Planning permission has been granted for a mixed commercial and residential development in Winchcombe.

Tewkesbury Borough Council gave permission for the 1.34ha development, at Almsbury Farm on Vineyard Street close to Sudeley Castle, which will provide 893sq m of Class E commercial floor space and 18 new homes.

The works will include demolition of non-historic portal framed barns, 67 new car parking spaces, landscaping and associated infrastructure.

Plans include restoring the Grade II listed Almsbury Farmhouse and the adjacent Grade II listed farm buildings, which are currently in a derelict condition.

The barns on the Almsbury Farm site were used continuously between 2007 and 2021 as workshops and storage units by workers of the Sudeley Estate for uses connected to the tourism business.

The barns haven't been used for agricultural uses since before 2007 and have been vacant since 2021.

Under the terms of the planning consent, work on the development must begin by August 2027.
