WHSmith considers hot food move

WHSmith is considering introducing hot food options to its hospital and travel stores.

The retailer launch its own-brand food-to-go range, Smiths Family Kitchen, in travel stores in May, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Since then, it has reported record weeks for food sales.

Now the business wants to take it further, with ideas including 'a cohesive breakfast offer', as part of its strategy of becoming a one-stop-shop and increasing transaction values.

WhSmith said it has no plans to become a fast food store but believes broadening its food offer will help it meet customer needs.

The retailer introduced food around 10 years ago and now sells 11 million meal deals a week with 80,000 different food combinations in its meal deals every week.
