Well known pub near Stroud could be saved from closure

A pub near Stroud had announced that it would close its doors for the last time this Saturday - but it may have been saved.

The White Hart, a pub and bed and breakfast in Leonard Stanley, announced its closure to customers on Facebook on June 7, after 10 years in business.

The short statement read: "The White hart Pub will be opening its doors for the last time on Saturday 11th June.

"Mike would like to thank everyone for their support over the last 10 years.

"We will miss all of our customers!"

The post saw an outpouring of support from locals, sharing memories of their times visiting the pub.

One said: "Spent most of my life in there and that was with Mike and the gang.

"Thanks for the memories as there's been some special characters in there who are no longer with us, too many to name but miss them all."

Another added: "Awfully sad news. The pub has been central to so many local people getting to know one another over the years and particularly supportive of elderly customers."

But since then, a further update has been posted on social media suggesting that a new landlord has been found to take on the establishment.

It read: "As there is a prospect of the pub having a new leaseholder it has been decided the pub will remain open.

"We will update further as we know more. Thank you for all the support and kind messages over the last few days."
