Warning: Major road works will mean traffic diversions

Traffic will be diverted while essential improvements are carried out to a busy county road next month.

Resurfacing work will take place in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham on the A435 Cirencester Road as part of Gloucestershire County Council's £150 million investment into the county's highways.

The road will be resurfaced from Monday 6th August to Friday 10th August between 9:30am and 3:30pm when traffic diversions will be in place.

To help minimise disruption, the resurfacing will take place during the school holidays and the road will still be open during peak times. Highways crews will complete resurfacing works along the 4,088 square metres stretch of road with 480 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "As part of the county council's £150 million investment, we have identified the need to take swift action to resurface this section of road in order to keep Gloucestershire moving. The carriageway has been slowly deteriorating so these vital improvements will help make the journey smoother for everyone. I would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation while this essential work is carried out."

What's the diversion route?

From the Northern extent of the closure take the A40 (London Road) and follow the diversion towards Andoversford. Pass Andoversford and at the A436 junction (Shipton Ollife) turn right towards Kilkenny. Take the A436 and continue along the road to the Seven Springs roundabout. At the roundabout take the second exit onto the A435 (Cirencester Road) and head in the Cheltenham direction. Diversion is the same in reverse.
