WARNING: 24hr road closure on Bruton Way – Gloucester

Highway works for the new Gloucester bus station are well underway. Crews are now finishing their second phase of road works and utility companies are on track.

The road works which accompany the new bus station have been taking place in the centre of Gloucester in recent weeks. In order for this work to continue safely and quickly, the section of road on Bruton Way between Metz Way and Market Parade will be closed northbound on Sunday (1st Oct) from 9am until 6am on Monday (2nd Oct).

The A430 Bruton Way southbound, between London Road and Metz Way, will also be closed on Sunday (1st Oct) from 6pm until 6am on Monday (2nd Oct) so work can continue..

During the southbound road closure there will be no access to the railway station car park between 6pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday. A full sign posted diversion will be in place but drivers are asked to allow extra time for their journey.

Whilst the road is closed, vital road resurfacing works will be undertaken to support the ongoing work upgrading the Bruton Way/Station Approach junction.

The bus station development is progressing rapidly. Western Power, Virgin and Vodafone have nearly finished their utility diversion work and the new kerbs are almost completed. Ongoing electrical works to relocate power cabinets and upgrade the street lighting in the area are also well underway.

Over the next fortnight as works continue in Bruton Way spur and Market Parade, there will be no change to the current pedestrian diversions.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council said: "The new road layout in the heart of Gloucester city centre is absolutely essential for the new bus station. So far crews have done a great job and it's already starting to take shape. I'd like to thank people for their patience during this works."

Cllr Paul James, Leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration said: "It's great that we're seeing the work progress so well on the roads surrounding the bus station. Once this phase is finished, work can begin on the build and things will really start to take shape."
