Volunteers prepare new radio station for Forest of Dean

Volunteers have been busy getting a brand new radio station ready for launch on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Local people have given up their free time to help Dean Radio prepare for its first broadcast on Friday 24th August at 6pm. The station will broadcast live from Cindyfest on Sunday 26th August from 12pm.

Volunteers have got stuck in with painting and decorating the studios at The Miner's Welfare Hall and mounting an antenna at the Belle Vue Centre, Cinderford.

Dean Radio will broadcast on 105.6FM in the Forest of Dean, as well as online and via mobile apps.

Once up and running, listeners will be able to hear a broad schedule of programming such as The Dean Magazine on Friday evenings from 6pm. This will be a live show, covering issues of local interest.

There will also be specialist programmes, ranging from dance music on The Saturday Night Party with Dan Green to Strike up the Brass with Dave Jury on Monday evenings.

Station manager Ryan Davies said: "The volunteers have been brilliant. They have given up their spare time to help us renovate our studios, and install the engineering needed for our FM broadcast.

"We are committed to getting as many local people on air as possible. There is still room in the schedule for new ideas. Cinderford Town Council have been great and we'd like to thank them for their support."

Anyone who wants to get involved, whether behind the mic or behind the scenes, is welcome to attend one of the station's meetings on Thursdays from 7.15pm at The Miner's Welfare Hall, Cinderford.

Anyone interested can contact the station via email: info@deanradio.co.uk , through twitter @dean_radio or the station's Facebook page: @deanradiofod.
