After the announcement earlier this week of Burger King opening its latest restaurant on June 28 at The Old Log Pond, Punchline-Gloucester.com was invited for an exclusive tour of the site.
Moon Acre Developments are acting as main contractors on the scheme, led by Foden Estates, which sits on the former CEMEX depot only 100 metres from the major intersection of the A38 Cole Avenue, Bristol Road and A430.
The site consists of six units on the banks of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which will be leased by the likes of Greggs, Costa Coffee and Burger King.
Leon Golden, construction director for the Moon Acre, took Punchline-Gloucester.com editor Mark Owen on a walk-through of progress on the multi-million-pound project.
He said: "At its climax, we have had 40 to 50 workers on site, but we are slowing down now as we are coming towards completion.
"We are handing over Burger King next week, followed by Costa Coffee at the end of the month and then everyone else."
Works undertaken by Moon Acre Developments include diverting an existing culvert, construction of the six commercial premises including piled foundations, steel frame construction, with a mixture of brick, timber and metal cladding.
Gloucester-based Kitchen and interior firm Dajon Interiors Ltd are also moving into a new 2,000 sq ft unit once fit out is complete, after 23 years of trading from its store on Finlay Road.
"Dajon have started their fit out, and hopefully we will be off site by the end of July at the latest," Mr Golden added.
A final 4,000 sq ft unit remains available for lease.
