VIDEO: What does Dan Snow think of Gloucester?

Historian, TV presenter and broadcaster Dan Snow told Punchline editor Mark Owen what he thinks of the historic city of Gloucester and our Gloucester History Festival.

The Gloucester History Festival   (2nd-17th September) concludes this weekend with President Janina Ramirez providing the final Blackfriars Talk An Art Lovers' Guide at 6pm on Sunday 17th September with Alastair Sooke.

Shrabani Basu will also be sharing the remarkable tale of friendship between Queen Victoria and her servant Abdul Karim, this Sunday, before the film starring Judi Dench arrives in our local cinemas.

Today you can hear about tales of spies and spymasters, the story told by our own genes and one of Britain's most radical Prime Ministers.

This weekend there are a variety of events to choose from, including two dramatic performances by University of Gloucestershire students on Women in Flying Machines and Woolf's Orlanda from the time of Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I; Anita Rani explores her own Indian heritage and Clare Mulley discusses her riveting double biography on The Women Who Flew For Hitler and more for the Blackfriars Talks.

City Voices include a Hands on History induction workshop which will explore the Gloucestershire Archives and online resources from 10.30am Saturday morning and The Swing Museum will perform their music at St Mary de Crypt from 7.30pm Saturday evening.

There will also be a rare opportunity to meet Polish WW2 veterans, hear their stories, learn about their culture and sample their food at St Mary de Lode this Saturday from 2pm.

Two Alney Island talks are also taking place this weekend with Tony Conder, the first this Saturday at 7pm at the Museum of Gloucester and the second this Sunday at 10.30am, meeting at the footbridge at The Docks for a guided walk.
