VIDEO: Gloucester wins nearly £12 million Levelling Up boost

A Levelling Up investment of just under £12 million for part of Gloucester city centre has been announced today.

The cash award, from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, will go towards improving the Eastgate and Greyfriars area of the city.

Responding to the news, Gloucester's MP Richard Graham said: "Change and improvements to Gloucester City Centre take another big step forward with our second Levelling Up Fund win to regenerate the Eastgate and Greyfriars area - improving our Indoor Market, making better use of the Greyfriars setting beside it and bringing back to life the bowling club.

"The whole Eastgate quarter will now leap forward in the same way that the other side of Eastgate Street has with the Kings Square, the new University teaching campus at what was Debenhams, and the Forum, which is already happening as well as GWR-led work at our railway station. This will be the next great thing for the centre of Gloucester. It's really exciting.

"It's another great sign of confidence in our plans to improve Gloucester and will encourage more private investment alongside this substantial public investment."
