VIDEO: A436 closed after cluster of trees falls on road

Gloucestershire County Council has been forced to close the A436 near Bourton-on-the-Water after a cluster of trees fell onto the road during Storm Darragh.

Storm Darragh has caused widespread disruption across the country, with strong winds bringing down an estimated 20-30 trees across the A436. The affected section of the road is currently impassable.

The trees came down over the weekend and highways teams have been working hard since to clear the debris and reopen the road as quickly as possible. However, due to the number of fallen trees, it is expected to take a week before the road can be reopened.

The A436 is closed between Notgrove and the A429 at Whiteshoots Hill. There is a diversion route in place using the A40 and A429.

The council is in contact with residents directly affected by the fallen trees to ensure they are safe. The local authority is also in communication with the owner of the land the trees fell from.

Jason Humm, director of transport and highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "The safety of our residents and road users is our top priority. We understand the significant disruption this road closure will cause, and our teams are working around the clock to clear the debris and reopen the A436 as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding during this challenging time."

Residents who are trapped will be offered support with essential supplies such as food and medication. For anyone that is worried about someone or who needs help please contact Cotswold District Council customer services - 01285 623000 from 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday.

The county council will provide updates as soon as it is able to. To follow updates across Gloucestershire's Roads, follow @GlosRoads on X and Gloucestershire Roads on Facebook.
