This week, Punchline-Gloucester.com visited King's Square in Gloucester to check up on the area's £5m regeneration scheme.
Local building firm E G Carter & Co are currently working to transform the city centre site, after being appointed to the project by Gloucester City Council in Autumn 2020.
The finished product sweeping granite seating areas and water fountains, as well as tree planting, landscaping and atmospheric coloured lighting.
The design concept by George King Architects takes inspiration from the Severn Bore - the spectacular tidal surge along the River Severn.
Set to be finished by the end of the year, the city council hope the area will become a focus for the city centre and events space for live performances and entertainment as well as a destination and meeting place for visitors and residents alike.
King's Square forms the centrepiece of a wider £107million scheme by the city council, working in partnership with developer Reef Group, to regenerate the King's Quarter area of Gloucester.
A key component of this regeneration scheme is The Forum - a new social and digital campus for the South West, designed to act as a catalyst for the emerging digital and cyber sector.
Phase One of The Forum, which will see 19 apartments along with 5,000 sq m of retail space for Tesco, is also being built by E G Carter & Co. The firm broke ground on that development in August 2021 and it is expected to be complete in July 2022.
