Update on stabbings in near Tewkesbury

A man who suffered serious stab wounds remains in hospital.

A Chief Inspector has given a statement in relation to the incident at the Wheatpieces estate in Walton Cardiff, near Tewkesbury  on Tuesday 5 October, where a man aged in his 40s died.

Chief Inspector Roddy Gosden from the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Local Policing Area said: "Shortly after 5.20pm on Tuesday (October 5) we received multiple calls to the area of Snowdonia Road and Arlington Road in Walton Cardiff, near Tewkesbury, with reports a man had a knife and had injured others.

"One man suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of paramedics and others who helped he died at the scene. A second man suffered serious stab wounds and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a critical but stable condition. A woman also suffered a wound to her leg and has been treated at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

"This was a horrific incident in a quiet residential area. We understand those who saw what happened will be traumatised and many in the local community will be upset and worried.

"Today and over the next few days local policing team officers will be patrolling the area to listen to people's concerns, refer people to available support and provide reassurance.

"The man who was arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody at this time and we can confirm we're not seeking anyone else in connection with our enquiries.

"Our thanks to those who were first at the scene, including two off duty police officers, who bravely intervened to tackle and restrain the suspect.

"Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who died and those who were injured. The next of kin are currently receiving support from our family liaison officers.

"The investigation continues and anyone who has not already spoken to us, or anyone who has video footage of the incident, is asked to please contact us and not to post it on social media.

"Due to previous police contact with the suspect and victim the Constabulary is referring itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. This is standard practice in such circumstances. In light of this and our ongoing investigation it would not be appropriate to comment further on the details of the case."

A man aged in his 40s who sustained serious stab wounds remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

A woman aged in her 30s who sustained a wound to her leg went to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.

Investigating officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to police and would like to hear from anyone who has relevant mobile phone footage.
