Update following suspected sexual assault in Cirencester

An arrest has been made in connection with a suspected sexual assault in Cirencester which took place during the early hours of Saturday morning (July 24).

A 21-year-old man from Cirencester was arrested Sunday evening (July 26) on suspicion of rape and has since been released on police bail to allow for further inquiries to take place.

Police were called on Saturday with a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man whilst in the Abbey Grounds, Cirencester between 3am and 5am that morning.

Later that day an unknown woman attended the victim's home address saying that she had found her phone and driving licence in the woodland area in Abbey Grounds.

Detective Sergeant Faye Satchwell-Bennett said: "We would like to thank the community of Cirencester who have been calling in with valuable information that has assisted our inquiries.

"We are still urgently seeking to identify the woman who located a phone and driving licence in the Abbey Grounds area of Cirencester and returned it to the owner."
