University honours business leaders

Leading business people will be amongst those honoured at the final University of Gloucestershire 2017 graduation ceremonies at Cheltenham Racecourse on 23 and 24 November.

This year's honorary awards will be presented to outstanding individuals from the worlds of fashion, sport, education, business and technology.

They include Neill Ricketts, CEO of Versarien, the Cheltenham based advanced materials group, who will receive an Honorary Fellowship.

Mr Ricketts said: "I am surprised and honoured to receive such an honour for work I believe in and need no reward. It is a great pleasure to work with the wide variety of fantastic businesses we have in the county, and I look forward to seeing them flourish over the coming years."

Andy Lewis MBE, the Forest of Dean's European, World and Paralympic champion who recently won a Gold medal in the 2016 Rio Paralympics, will receive his Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy.

County Lord Lieutenant Dame Janet Trotter OBE DBE, who helped found the University of Gloucestershire in 2001 and became it's first Vice-Chancellor, will receive her Honorary Doctorate.

Emma Willis, the Gloucester-based fashion designer known for her hand-made British shirts, will receive her Honorary Fellowship from the University.

Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of London College of Fashion and former Associate Dean of Arts and Humanities at the University, will also receive an Honorary Fellowship.

Mary Curnock Cook, will receive her Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy. Mary was a former chief executive of UCAS based in Cheltenham, and featured on the Radio 4 Woman's Hour Powerlist.

She said: "There is something very special about being honoured for doing something you love and even more so to be recognised in the locality where you loved doing it. This feels like an honour to all my wonderful former colleagues at UCAS in Cheltenham, where the University of Gloucestershire is so prominent."

Gloucester based Peter Warry, who is the current chairman of The Royal Mint, will gain an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy.

He said: "I am delighted to be renewing my association with the University of Gloucestershire which plays such an important part in our local community."
