University and Treehouse Partners receive £110k in funding

A partnership between University of Gloucestershire and Treehouse Partners Ltd - aimed at driving innovation in data science - has received £110k in Government funding.

The University's School of Computing and Engineering is collaborating with business management consultants, Treehouse Partners Ltd, based near Stroud, in carrying out industry-led research and developing new products, processes and services through work around data science.

The partnership will provide placement learning and networking opportunities for students in the University's data-science-related courses within the School of Computing and Engineering, which include MSc Data Science, BSc Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Scientist Apprenticeship.

The project is being carried out as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership - a partly Government-funded programme bringing together businesses and universities.

The £110k in funding has been provided by the Government-backed agency Innovate UK, which supports innovation in all sectors, technologies and UK regions, with an additional £54k from Treehouse Partners, bringing the total project funding to £164k.

Dr Will Sayers, senior lecturer in cyber computing within the School of Computing and Engineering, said: "We're delighted to have achieved funding from Innovate UK for a project that we hope will go a long way to promoting innovation around data science.

"The work will enable Treehouse Partners to develop an online data-science driven platform that can complement the current services they offer their clients around training, learning and coaching, as well as providing essential data insights that will further advance research in this area.

"The partnership is part of our wider work with industry and business in carrying out impactful research and ensuring that our growing portfolio of data-science and computer degree programmes continue to equip our students with the latest skills businesses need."

Helen Westendorp, MD at Treehouse, said: "The total team are delighted the funding has been awarded; it will enable fast-track development within people innovation, leading to global stage thought leadership and step changing our working partnerships with some of the world's leading defence sector companies."
