UK manufacturing at highest level for a decade
11th January 2018
UK manufacturing output is growing at its fastest rate since early 2008, after recording a seventh consecutive month of growth in November.
Aeroplanes, boats, renewable energy projects and cars for export all helped make output 3.9 per cent higher in the three months to November than in 2016, as reported by the BBC.
The latest government figures show industrial output rose by 0.4 per cent in November, with the biggest growth coming from renewable energy supply. This increased by 3.2 per cent, driven largely by warmer than average temperatures in October and colder than average temperatures in November.
But the news wasn't so good in construction, with output in the three months to November falling by two per cent, compared with the previous three months. That was the industry's biggest quarterly fall since August 2012, although there was a modest increase of 1.2 per cent in new housing.
The manufacturing sector makes up roughly 10 per cent of the economy.
Punchline says this is really positive news, which we hope is being felt in manufacturing firms across the county.
