£20 million factory motoring ahead

Brexit continues to send jitters through industry, but it does not appear to have changed the immediate plans of a major business operating in Gloucestershire.
As aerospace sector giant Airbus threatens to leave the UK and rumbles from Ford suggest a no deal would hurt its UK operation, in Gloucestershire plans continue apace for a multi-million pound investment.
It is understood the new G-Tekt Europe Manufacturing Ltd factory in Gloucester is motoring ahead - fitting, as the business is a just-in-time supplier for some of the world's biggest car marques.
You may not know it, but if you drive a Honda or a BMW the bodywork for your car may have been not just made at the Japanese-owned firm's Brockworth base, but designed there too.
It simply doesn't shout too loudly about what it does because when its product sees the light of day it is wearing another company's badge.
It is believed as well as the Gloucester Business Park factory the company, part of G-Tem, is also building a plant in Slovakia which will support Jaguar Land Rover's new European production. The investment is in the region of £20million.
Both factories are expected to be operation later this year.
G-Tem is recruiting in Gloucestershire too, where it already employs an estimated 500 staff. It was at the recent Gloucestershire Engineering Training event to meet what it hopes will be its next generation of apprentices.
G-Tekt Europe Manufacturing Ltd (G-Tem) is a subsidiary of G-Tekt Corporation and an affiliate of Honda Motor Company Japan.
Its Gloucester facility was established in 1996 and has been a £100 million investment to date.
Its current factory hosts 300 industrial robots and it classes itself as one of the European leaders in the automotive sector.
Airbus has said it will close factories in the UK in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Ford said no-deal Brexit would result in costs of £612m during 2019 alone.
