Tributes to 'dedicated' Stroud councillor

Tributes have been paid to Stroud district Councillor Richard Maisey, who died recently.

A minute's silence was observed at the full council meeting on Thursday, April 10, and councillors remembered the Labour member for Severn Ward, who was also an Eastington parish councillor.

Leading the tributes for Stroud District Council, Labour Group leader Terry Cook said: "Cllr Maisey's contributions were marked by his integrity, compassion, and dedication to democratic principles and community engagement. He will be remembered for the positive impact he made on the lives of his constituents and the wider district. He will be deeply missed by the Labour Group and the wider Labour family."

Council leader Catherine Braun said: "I was shocked and saddened to learn of Richard's passing. I really enjoyed working with Richard and his good humour, commitment to local residents and cross-party engagement on many issues always shone through.

"He will be sadly missed at Stroud District Council, especially on the environment and development control committees where he was a vocal advocate for our communities. I would like to extend my sympathy to his family and fellow Labour councillors, as well as to his colleagues and friends in the communities of the Severn Ward."

Lindsey Green, leader of the Conservative Group, said: "Despite our political differences, I held a deep respect for Councillor Maisey's dedication to his role. His contributions have left an indelible mark on his constituents and our wider communities."

Linda Cohen, leader of the Liberal Democrats Group, said: "Cllr Maisey served our communities with unwavering commitment and integrity. He will be missed by all his colleagues at Stroud District Council."
