Travel firm reports growing holiday confidence

German travel group Tui has revealed that 2.6 million people booked a holiday during July and August.

That number is twice as many as last year, the company says.

In particular, bookings in Germany and the Netherlands have gone up, to well ahead of Summer 2019 levels.

Turkey, Florida, Greece, and Cyprus are the most popular destinations at present.

Fritz Joussen, TUI CEO, said: "We want to, we can and we will find our way back to economic strength. We are working on this relentlessly.

"The new TUI will be leaner, more digital and more efficient. But it will continue to set standards in tourism, in quality, innovation and sustainability."

Overall summer 21 bookings total 5.2 million, an increase of around 1.1 million bookings since the previous update in August update.

It said this reflected returning customer confidence in Continental European markets.

Winter 2021/22 bookings are currently running at 54% of Winter 2018/19 levels.

Tui announced plans to raise around €1.1billion by selling shares in order to enhance its balance sheet.
