Travis Perkins has seen bumper sales through the first three months of 2021, driven by its Toolstation brand.
The builders' merchant enjoyed a sales growth of 6.8 per cent compared to the same period last year with like-for-like sales up 17.4 per cent.
Toolstation, which sells tools and materials with branches in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Cinderford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Ross-on-Wye, enjoyed a 42 per cent growth across the three months.
Results did not include DIY retailer Wickes which will cease to be part of Travis Perkins later this month.
It will be listed separately on the Stock Exchange and heads into the move on the back of a 18.9 per cent rise in sales in the last quarter.
Travis Perkins chief executive Nick Roberts said: "The group has enjoyed an encouraging start to the year with robust like-for-like sales growth across our businesses.
"The merchanting business has maintained the momentum seen in the second half of last year while Toolstation continues to outperform, driven by its convenient and trade-focused proposition.
"At this early stage in the year, our expectations remain unchanged as we continue to make progress on the delivery of our longer-term strategic plans."
