Thrings partner wins at British Muslim of the Year Awards

A prestigious award for the Muslim community has been won by Thrings' commercial property partner, Salma Maqsood, for her work as a national role model for young women entering the legal profession.

In its 12th year, the British Muslim Awards celebrates the achievements and contributions of Muslims across Britain in a range of fields, with Salma winning the Achievements in Law category at the ceremony held in Birmingham.

This recognition is not just of her outstanding legal talent, but also her passion for promoting the visibility of Muslim female hijabi professionals in the legal world, including through her presence on social media and as part of historic legal societies.

A member of the Bristol Law Society since 2019, and its current vice president, Salma was instrumental in establishing its EDI committee, which she co-chaired for several years.

Salma's work has also been recognised at a national level, serving as council member and as a social mobility ambassador for The Law Society, where she mentors aspiring solicitors, raising the profile of social mobility and fair access in the legal profession.

This work is further supported by Salma's volunteering, using her free time as an equal opportunities ambassador at Babassa, supporting Future Leaders UK and sitting on local university panels aimed at supporting and encouraging aspiring solicitors.

Salma Maqsood said: "Winning this award has come as a massive surprise, but it is most definitely a welcome one. The amazing work being done by my colleagues across the country to break down barriers and lift people up takes much courage and strength, and I am honoured that the judges chose me from amongst such talent.

"This recognition reflects the strength, resilience and determination of those who came before me, those who continue to inspire me every day and the next generation of aspiring lawyers who are still finding their way."

Thrings has offices across the South West, including one in Lydney. The firm works with clients on a range of land and construction related matters.
