Third Severn crossing would 're-connect Forest' to fast-rising commercial hub

The third Severn Bridge proposed as a key element of the recently unveiled 2050 Super City proposals would re-connect the Forest of Dean to the rest of Gloucestershire, says a commercial property expert.

Robert Smith (pictured) from Bruton Knowles' Quedgeley headquarters said the prospects for economic growth in the Forest would be considerably enhanced if the third bridge was built.

"The third bridge scheme might not offer the immediate benefits which the reduction and eventual removal of tolls on the existing bridges will bring. But it does demonstrate a new determination to include the Forest in the wider economic programme being rolled out in neighbouring Gloucester and Cheltenham," he commented.

"Cutting travel times would bring businesses and commuters closer to the M5. Direct connections to the Forest would unlock parts of the area which have proved difficult in the past."

The Commercial team at Bruton Knowles is working to boost greater connectivity along the fast-developing M5 corridor, believing a regional perspective is vital in understanding opportunities in the fast-developing logistics and communication hubs along the M5.

"A third Severn Bridge between Lydney and Sharpness would plug the Forest of Dean in to this fast-developing commercial route" added Robert Smith.
