Duncan Eyre, the new managing director of CM Downton

There is a new management team at the top of one of Gloucestershire's best-known firms.

Distribution and warehousing company CM Downton have a new managing director and operations director.

The move sees vastly-experienced logistics executive Duncan Eyre appointed to the role of MD and Zac Brown join as operations director.

The business has been run by the Downton family for more than 60 years.

For the last 30, brothers Andy, Richard and John have been at the helm, steering the firm on the road to becoming one of the UK's most prominent private logistics businesses.

The three brothers will now transfer to non-executive roles while supporting Eyre and his team through the transitional period.

Duncan Eyre has deep and diverse experience in the logistics and distribution sector over a 35-year career.

He has worked as a transport planner before moving into executive roles with Norbert Dentressangle and Bibby Distribution.

He said he was looking forward to building on the good work put in by the Downton family.

Eyre said: "The Downton business has a deep history in the UK distribution sector and is successful because of the way it has been managed and the ethos which runs throughout the company.

"There's vast experience and a great deal of loyalty and respect across both the workforce and customers.

"I'm here to build on that unrivalled heritage to ensure we are best-prepared to take full advantage of future growth opportunities and continue to deliver the best possible service to customers.

"Over time, and with the help of the Downton brothers in their non-executive roles, we will use complementary experience and the latest technology and reporting to strengthen the company's offering even further and continue that success."

CM Downton became part of UK Logistics giant EV Cargo in a £75million deal in November 2018.

And in a third change at the top, Downton Finance Director Ben Armstrong will step up to become finance director of the EV Cargo Logistics Unit.

CM Downton became part of UK logistics giant EV Cargo in November 2018 and as part of the new management team, finance director Ben Armstrong will become FD of EV Cargo Logistics Unit.

Andy Downton, CM Downton non-executive director, said: "On behalf of the Downton family and our loyal workforce, I'd like to welcome Duncan and Zac to their new roles.

"The business has been built on honest hard work and delivering the best possible service to our growing customer base.

"I'm confident Duncan is the perfect person to take the reins and drive the business forward."
